new work

the neckpiece shown below owes its inspiration to Keith Lo Bue and Deryn Mentock. Keith recently posted a new piece on his blog that made use of a crushed sterno can. i had an old tobacco tin that i have been wanting to do something with and Keith provided the catalyst to get me started. Deryn uses alot of crosses in her work and i recently purchased a number of crosses and religious charms that i was anxious to use. the work is entitled ‘ heard from the beginning’ . in addition to the tobacco tin, piece is composed of an etched bronze clock gear, an segment of an iron locking mechanism of some sort and a glass bottle stopper. the stopper is best seen in the photo where it is removed. the reverse side has been covered with text from an old Bible. the text is from 1 john 3:11 ‘For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another ‘ hence the title.

  12. This is a beautifully intricate piece and I love the interplay of the can, the gear and the cross - it’s like a cross section of current civilization.
